Research – there are a lot of modelling agencies that cater for children and therefore, it is vital to separate the good from the bad. The only way to distinguish reputable companies is to carry out extensive research. This is more than a quick Google search and scan of their website. Look at reviews, testimonials, industry links and analyse their website thoroughly to ensure that the agency is trustworthy. Find out everything there is to know about the company by locating social media channels and modelling forums. A model or parent scorned will be easy to find!!!

Ask questions – from the research you will probably have many questions that have been raised. Do not hold back from asking these queries due to shyness or worry of appearing unintelligent. Either ring up or email the agency with your concerns as the answer will determine whether the agency is suitable or not. Share all your thoughts prior to setting an agreement as holding uncertainty back will leave you feeling worried.

Sign a contract – never agree to anything without signing a contract that ensures your child’s safety. Do not trust an agent who claims that you do not need to sign a document as a trustworthy agency will deem this unacceptable. The contract is a way for the parents to give permission for your child to appear in the photoshoot or show. Individuals under 18 all need permission from their parents to accept a job. Read the contract thoroughly before signing making sure you understand all points clearly.

Seek advice – if unsure if an agency is suitable for your child ask for a second opinion from someone you trust. A fresh set of eyes will be able to advise clearly and maybe spot issues that you have missed. Obviously, you do not have to agree with their point of view but it is important to hear their thoughts to be thorough.

Visit – it is a good idea to visit the agency to get a feel for the place and to see if their online statements are true. Ask to arrange a meeting as simply just turning up will not be appropriate as agents are extremely busy. This is a time when agencies cannot hide behind the Internet with words as the truth is laid out for you to clearly witness. Absorb everything and take your initial thoughts into consideration without forcing yourself to change your opinion.
