Models Getting Ready – The Gossip From The Inside!

  • Amy Bebbington

Models getting ready… how long do they take? Do they spend longer, or less time, than the average person? So many questions.

When it comes to models getting ready, it’s a really long, arduous process. You’d think these women and men wouldn’t need any effort at all – they’re often blessed with natural good looks, after all. However, models getting ready is a process. You can’t just look good; you have to look perfect!

The Stages Of Models Getting Ready

Preparing for a photoshoot starts way before you actually get there. It might involve weeks – even months or years – of healthy eating and even a fitness regime. You’ll also have to prepare your skin and overall appearance by drinking lots of water, and investing in products to enhance your appearance.

Next, you might be asked to prepare by wearing a certain type of underwear or a plain top to wear. Alternatively, you might be asked to do base make up if the shoot is low budget. Learning how to do this requires practice. Understanding what to bring to each shoot is also an important task. If you’ve been asked to do something or prepare anything at all – from your hair to an outfit – you must adhere.

At the shoot itself, there are models getting ready in a range of different manners. For example, there is likely to be a make-up artist (MUA) on sit. Models getting ready require a lot of help, so a hair stylist is often there, too.

Remember, the creative vision of the shoot is more important than natural beauty or model’s strengths. When models are being prepared for something, it’s for someone else’s vision – rarely their own. Therefore, it takes a lot of work and can take a long time.

Models need to take some test shots to check all the hard work has been done for a reason! Make-up on camera needs to be visible and flawless, and hair should be in place and perfect for the images.

It Worth It?

There are many aspects when it comes to models getting ready, and despite the fact that models take less primping and preening than the average person, it still takes a lot of effort and time. You might think it’s all fun and games being pampered, but if you have to do this daily, it’s understandable that you might get restless!

Just remember that at the end, you’ll look amazing. Sure, you might not recognise yourself, but you will see yourself in a new light (which is always exciting), and the experience and shots for your portfolio afterwards will be more than worth it – who knows, it might even raise your profile if you’re asked to push boundaries, and maybe give you your big break.

Have you experienced getting ready as a model? Did you feel pampered or stressed?!
